Pick and Pack Fulfilment
Picking and packing is the crucial stage between receiving an order and its dispatch. It's also where most errors occur if routines aren't finely tuned.
What does picking involve?
Picking involves retrieving the items for an order from their designated storage locations. An efficient picking routine relies on logical product placement, a clear pick list, and a verification check against item numbers or barcodes before the order proceeds to packing.
What does packing involve?
Packing ensures the order receives the correct packaging and void fill, includes any necessary inserts, and has the shipping label applied. Packaging is chosen based on the product: providing sufficient protection, but no larger than necessary, as volume impacts shipping costs.
Factors influencing per-order labour
- Number of items per order – a single-line order is faster than an order with ten lines.
- If the product requires special handling, such as fragile goods.
- If the order needs to include inserts, gift wrap, or other additional handling.
- The type of packaging and amount of void fill required.
Vanliga frågor
Can you include inserts or flyers?
Yes, extra materials can be included. We will discuss how they should be stored and how much they will impact the handling process.
How are incorrect picks handled?
Errors can occur in any manual workflow. We implement control points to minimise risk and have a routine for reporting and correcting discrepancies. We do not promise infallibility.
